The source of the Ganges trek in Garhwal

The mighty Ganges starts from the Devbhomi( Abode of the Gods) of Garhwal at Gangotri. The glacier which is the starting point of the holy river Ganges is surrounded by peaks and laced with small water outlets through meadows.

The felling of being near the gods is completed by the tranquil atmosphere here as you will gaze upon holy men (sadhu) who wiAll be deep in meditation on the banks of this holy river.

Itinerary

Day-1: we will be driving to our river rafting camp in bayasi from New Delhi. Over night stay in tented accommodation.

Day-2: Today we will be leaving for Gangotri and covering 265 kilometers. Overnight stay will be in hotel.

Day-3: The day we start our trek is here as we trek towards Bhojbasa (3350 meters) in which we will cover 14 kilometers in 6 hours through dense deodar forest which will lead us in to a valley and then on to a beautiful meadow. Over night stay in tented accommodation.

Day-4: We will trek towards Tapovan (4463 meters) after passing through Gaumukh (3890 meters). This is a 10 kilometer trek which will take us 7 hours. The trail will first take us through lush grassy hillsides then through meadows which are strewn with a wide variety of locale wild flowers. We will be passing through Gaumukh the start point of the river Ganges. The trail will then cut across the Gangotri glacier and climb up towards the valley of Tapovan. Over night stay in tented accommodation.

Day-5: We will be trekking to Kirti Bhamak and onwards towards the base camp of Kedarnath. This trek will cover 7 kilometers and take 5 to 6 hours. Over night stay in tented accommodation.

Day-6: The trek today will take us from Tapovan to Nandavan (4570 meters) we will trek for 7 kilometers in 6 hours and cover rocky terrain. The glacier we will trek over is called Chaturangi (multi hued) the different colors of the glacier are quite evident. We will trek through lush meadows of Nandavan from where the view of Bhagirathi is truly amazing. Stay will be in tented accommodation.

Day-7: The trek today will cover 7 kilometers in 6 hours to the Vasuki Tal (lake) at the maximum height of 4800 meters. We will be trekking towards the Chaturangi glacier through a ridge. The trek will then take us to a spot where we will be able to view the Satopanth Mountain. Stay will be in tented accommodation.

Day-8: The trek today will take us to the start point of the mighty and holy river Ganges. This 12 kilometers trek will be accomplished in 5 hours. Stay will be in tented accommodation.

Day-9: We will trek to the road head and then drive onwards to our camp site in Byasi. Stay will be in tented accommodation.

Day-10: This is an optional day for doing river rafting to rishikesh which will be a 30 kilometers stretch. Stay will be in tented accommodation.

Day-11: we will be going back to our destination.

  • We will be sending you the list of equipment you will require for this trek, if you cannot get the equipment then we will help you to procure it.
