Milam Glacier Nanda Devi

The Kumaon hills are the most sought after destination for trekking. It was the home of the famous hunter Jim Corbett, Corbett national park was named to honor him. The beauty of this place cannot be surpassed by anything in the whole wide world. You will be passing through lush green forests populated by wild animals in there full glory.

This trek will take you around Nanda Devi and will follow the gorge to the Milam village, which was one of the most important trading posts of the Indo Tibetan cross border trade. The Milam Valley is surrounded by 7000mtr high peaks. Hardeol, Rishi Phara and Trishuli are some of the prominent peaks of this region. You would be exploring some virgin territory which is mostly undiscovered by the outside world.

The highlight of this trek will be when you enter Nanda Devi sanctuary; this place has a charm which will keep you rooted to your spot. The ring of mountains all around you will keep you enchanted, it has abundant wild life and flora and fauna and you will share your space with nature’s beauty.

Itinerary:

Day one:
Arrival at New Delhi airport, check out old Delhi bazaar.
Accommodation: hotel

Day two: Starting early morning drive to Nanital, on this drive you will be passing through Moradabad which is known as the brass capital of India. Here we will have a short break to check out the local handicraft. We will be reaching Nanital around evening, must do is the boat ride on the beautiful Tal (lake) surrounded by the town on one side and the mountains on the other.

Day three: After passing Almora we will be driving onwards to Munsyari (2290mtr), here we will be staying for the night. The drive in itself is an adventure as we pass beautiful mountains and river flowing alongside.

Day four: Today we will commence on the trek towards Lilam (1800mtr) this will cover 15km in 5 hours. This village is located on the entrance to the Gori Ganga Gorge. We will cross the river Jimighat on the way to Lilam. This trek will loosen up your limbs for the coming days.

Day five: Today we will be covering the distance of 14 km in 6 hours to Bodgudiar (2500mtr). We will be following the Gori Ganga, which will be flowing alongside. This part of the trek has some spectacular views of the Panchchuli Range. Our night halt would be at the meadows of Bodgudiar which has a dense forest of conifer and oak trees ringing it.

Day six: Today we will be trekking to Railkot (3100mtr), the duration will be 14 km in 6 hours. The Gori Ganga will be accompanying us part of the way, we will be crossing ice patches on the way and here we can gorge on wild strawberries. You will also come across a snow bridge. We will continue to Martoli, which will be our night halt.

Day seven: Today we will be trekking onwards to Milam village (3450mtr) 11km in 6 hours. We will get the first view of the Trishuli peak (7065mtr). After crossing Burfi village we will have an amazing view Nandadevi and Ghangar peaks. After crossing the Goenka River we will reach Milam village.

Day eight: Today we will be trekking for 6km (3each side) to Milam glacier. The start of the glacier is at 3500mtrs, the trail winds along to the mouth of the glacier (4500mtr). We will have great views of Nanda Pal and Nanda Gond on the way back. Going there Trishuli and Hardeol peaks are in front of us.

Day ninth: Onwards to Nanda Devi east base camp we will be covering 14km in 6 hours to reach Lawanl camp where we will be staying for the night.

Day tenth: Today we will be going on to Nanda Devi east base camp (4150mtr) and trekking for about 12km in 6 hours. Passing through ice patches we will come across a beautiful meadow Satrol Kharak
(3650mtr). After passing Naspanpati river (4200mtr) we will go on to Shaima Kharak where there is abundance of flora and fauna, the view of the snow capped Bangatia from here is awesome. We will come across a lot of glacial moraines on our way to the base camp.

Day eleventh: Today is the trek to the trail pass, which is the link between Pandari and lwanl valleys, here we will have great views of the Nanda Devi east, Nanda Khat and Longstaff Col. The total trekking time will be 6kms in 2 to 3 hours.

Day twelfth: The trek will take us back to Martoli; it’s an easy walk of around 16km which we will cover in 6 hours. The trek is easy as we will generally be going down hill. The blue goats of this region are a rare species and a possible sighting would be a added bonus for the day. On the way we will be passing small lakes with crystal clear water.

Day thirteen: Today we will be passing Railkot back to Bugdiar. The trek is for 14km, which we will cover in 5 hours as its generally downhill. We will be passing through some beautiful landscape.

Day fourteen: After trekking hard for a couple of days today’s trek will be the cooling down period of this adventure. We will be trekking towards Lilam (1850mtr) and covering the distance in 6 hours at a leisure pace.

Day fifteen: Onwards to Munsari, we will be taking a leisure walk. On the way we will see the Panch Chuli range. Here onwards we will take a taxi towards Kathgodam.

Day sixteen: Drive back to Delhi.
