Mount Abu

Mount Abu is situated in the Sirohi district of Rajasthan and is the only hill station of this diverse and fascinating land with the highest point being Guru Shikhar, altitude being 1,721m (5,646ft) it is marked by a Vishnu temple.

Mount Abu is in the vast Chauhan Riasat(kingdom) of Rajasthan and was used by the British as well as Rajput kings as there summer retreat, who came to escape the heat and dust of Rajasthan.

Some of the important sites to visit are: Gardens and Parks, Shri Raghunathji Temple, Honeymoon Point, Sunset Point, Adhar Devi Temple, Gaumukh Temple, Museum and Art Gallery, Dilwara Jain Temples, Nakki Lake.

The most spectacular site in this place is the consortium of Dilwara Jain Temples which are situated three kilometers north of the Mount Abu on a hill.

 Vimala Vasahi and Luna Vasahi temples are the amazing ones; there is delicate and intricate carvings with sculptured details on the archways, niches, doorways and the pillars of these temples are seen to be believed.

The Luna Vasahi Temple is attributed to 22nd Jain Tirthankara Neminath and features a lotus shaped main hall and descending from its domed ceiling a tiered pendant which is carved from a single block of marble.

The Vimala Vasahi Temple was built by Vimala Shah the prime minister of the Solanki Kings who reigned in Gujarat in 1031 and was dedicated to Adinath the first Jain Tirthankara.

Gaumukh Temple is just 4 km below Mount Abu and the usp of this place is that natural spring water flows from a the mouth of a marble cow statue.

Nakki Lake is the place to visit. Sunset point which is on the west corner of the lake offers an amazing view of the place, there are the summer palaces and the colonial mansions of the erstwhile Rajput and British rulers, the summer palaces completely ring this place and give it the romantic air.

Museum and Art Gallery is located near the Raj Bhawan. There is an amazing collection of excavations which date back to the 8th century A.D.

Honeymoon Point offers a charming view of the valleys and the lush plains, the charm of this place comes out during the evening period.

Sunset Point has astunning sight of the sun when its setting and the hills which get covered with a blanket of gold can be viewed from here.

There is a wide variety of gardens and parks which cover almost the entire place, the prominent ones are Municipal Park, Ashok Vatika, Terrace Garden and Shaitan Singh Park.

There are festivals held in MountAbu in winters as well as summers, in winters the festivities are from the 29th to the 31st December and in the summers from 30th April to 20th May.

The temperature in summers varies from 33 degrees to 23 degrees Celsius, in the winters it ranges from 28 degrees to 11 degrees Celsius.
The best time to visit is between February to June and September to December.

Wardrobe required for summers is tropical and for winters its light woolens.
